Greedy bastards

I cannot believe how greedy corporate America has gotten. I just got a new job and they require me to have written proof of all my previous employment. No big deal, right? Wrong! One of my previous employers, which will remain nameless for now, requires payment for proof of previous employment!!!!

I faxed them the paper, single sheet, that I needed filled out because they said to just fax it to them and they would fill it out. What do I get faxed back? A note stating that I have to either visit a website, call a 900 number or call an 800 number to use a credit card in order to get employment verification. I thought “This can’t be for real”, so I called the 800 number. They wanted $12 to get an employment report!!!!!! Unbelievable. I have never had a employer require me to pay them to get a “Yes, he worked here for X time and did Y job”.

So, I called my previous employer directly and told them it was bull-shit and I wasn’t paying $12 just for them to acknowledge I worked there for the time I said and did what I said I did. So, they had me re-fax the sheet and they filled it out. Bastards.

Tip: Need a good word processor but don’t want to buy MS Word? Try AbiWord. Can open and save MS Word, OpenOffice, Rich Text and HTML files. It’s not too big because it is pretty stripped down, but plugins are available for more functionality.
