Two words: Shut…..Up

Why are people so damn paranoid about doing anything on a computer except running Outlook or Word. Example from today:

(l)user: My computer isn’t working. Gave me xxxx error.
me: Yeah, that’s caused by yyyy program. It needs an update you can download from the product site.
(l)user: But it never happened before.
me: Yeah, it’s an intermittant issue. It even states that on the manufacturers website.
(l)user: So how are you going to fix it?
me: I just told you how. Just download the patch. I just emailed you the link directly to it.
(l)user: So you are going to install a patch?
me: Uhhhhhh, no. I just sent you a link. It will be fine.
(l)user: So when are you going to be here to install it?
me: I’m not. I have a lot of other issues ahead of you so it would be a lot faster if you do it yourself. It’s easy. Download the patch, double-click the file and that’s it.
(l)user: I’m going to have to talk to your boss. You are supposed to do anything that requires computer stuff.
me: Ok, he’s out right now, but he’ll be back in an hour.
(l)user: I want to talk to him now!
me: Do you have his cell phone number?
(l)user: No, just transfer me.

Ok, that’s it. Can’t take it anymore. Must….kill….(l)user……..

So, the (l)user talked to my boss, boss laughed, boss installed patch. I couldn’t do it because:

1. It was a minor issue
2. I was across town setting up a network

Ah well, another day, another $0.79 ($1 after taxes).

No tip today. I’ll double up tomorrow.
