At least I didn’t lose my shirt

Last night, I went over to a co-workers house for a friendly game of Texas Hold’em poker. There was six of us all together and we all had a pretty good time. The buy in was $20 and that was split into chips worth 5, 10 & 25 cents as well as $1 & $5 chips. The minimum bet, to get everything started, was 10 cents. It wasn’t really a game for big money, just enough to have something to bet.

It was fun, though, because it was just a few people that work together. We didn’t have to worry about the work environment and get togethers like that build comradery.

I was cold during the first ten or so hands and then I got hot for a few hands. I was actually up to about $35 when all of the sudden my hands turned to ice. I wasn’t getting anything on the hole cards and zilch on the flops. After almost four hours, I was out. :(

I think the main reason I lost out was because I didn’t take a break. Four hours straight of poker will wear you down and you stop playing your sharpest game. I should have got up and took a little break every hour or so in order to keep fresh. We did have food (chili, chips, cake, etc.) which was very good. I thanked my friends wife and made sure to tell her how good the food was. I’d never had chili with ground deer meat, instead of beef, before and I must say it was really good.

One of the best sites I found for rules and strategy help for Texas Hold’em is this one. It’s not an all-in-one guide but it does cover quite a bit in a clear manner. Check it out if you don’t know much about the game and want to learn.

Sounds like fun. I play with my friends once in a while but I’m definitely not good enough to really enjoy it. I’ll check out the site!
