14 articles in 14 days

I want to write 14 articles or How-To’s in 14 days but I need your help. I need topics. Give me some suggestions and I’ll get to work on them now.

Why am I doing this? Because at the first of the year I said I wanted to improve my writing skills and do more articles. I have failed. I have failed because I can’t seem to come up with anything good to write about. I have failed because what I do write I look at and go “No way is that worth posting”.

Topics I will write about:

If something is suggested and I can’t figure it out in less than 6 hours, I’ll throw in the towel for that subject. I do not want to throw in the towel on the whole thing.

In case you’re wondering, no, I don’t think I know it all and that’s why I am doing this. I am doing this for the challenge and for the motivation.

I’ll start writing up something within 24 hours after receiving the first viable article suggestion. Just leave a comment telling me your suggested article. Invite your friends. :)

Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein. – H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

    Cool idea. :) I’ve never thought of giving myself that sort of deadline.

    Here are my ideas…

    * Doing cool stuff with the system scheduler
    * Differences and similarities between MSSQL and MySQL
    * Detecting rootkits
    * A review of the new Wordpress

    BTW… I love this comment preview feature. It’s kind of like WYSIWYG without all the irritation. :)

    The comment preview and some of the other AJAX add-ins helped me decide to use this theme. The only thing that doesn’t work in the preview are the smiley graphics.

    Thanks for the ideas.

    Topic: Should average Joe choose XP home or pro… and why? Is there really that much of a difference between the two?

    Topic: (this one’s for me) Keeping your data streamlined. Setting up your hard drive so that your ’stuff’ is easy to find… and keeping it that way.

    Topic: Why Jason is the sexiest man alive. :razz:

    There’s no reason for the Average Joe to use XP Pro. I doubt he’d use it for connecting to a domain server, and I doubt he’d use EFS. For an EFA replacement, he could just download the free program “True Crypt”.

    I use XP Home all the time, because even I have no need for XP Pro. The only reason “Pro” exists is for Microsoft to make more money. That’s it.

    Reasons for XP Pro…

    * Remote Desktop
    * File and folder encryption
    * Logging on to an NT domain
    * Advanced control over permissions
    * Flexibility in creating user groups

    If you don’t need these, you probably don’t need Pro.

    I hope wycked* doesn’t mind his comment section being used as a forum thread, but wouldn’t *Advanced control over permissions be a good thing on a system that is used by an entire family?

    I don’t care if people use my comment sections as a quasi-forum. :)

    Hell, I may make this post my personal blog from now on. I just had some good DQ.

    DQ?

    Go ahead and make this post comments section your blog (for the low price of $19.95/month :D)

    I don’t think anyone noticed that there was a question mark at the end of my last comment :wink: [/subtle hint]

    I don’t think anyone noticed cared that there was a question mark at the end of my last comment
    There you go, I fixed that for you. :razz:

    All kidding aside, that is kind of what one of my articles is going to be about (using Home vs. Pro or using another method to secure Home).

    Groovy… and don’t lie, you cared :oops:
