So long mail-in rebates

OfficeMax is discontinuing mail-in rebates! I think they are making the right choice getting rid of the mail-in rebates and opting for more in-store discounts. I would rather purchase a product that had a slightly lower discount amount if it was instant (in-store) just so I didn’t have to deal with the mail-in rebate hassle.

According to the CNet News.com story:

“Rebates were the No. 1 customer complaint we were getting,” said Ryan Vero, OfficeMax’s chief merchandising officer.

I believe that. I’ve always hated mailing in a rebate and hoping to receive my rebate. Most of the rebates I sent in actually took double the “6-8 weeks” quoted time, if they came at all.

I wish all stores would drop mail-in rebates (Best Buy is supposedly dropping them in 2007 or 2008).

Good, it’s about time I personaly am sick of walking into a store seeing the price then standing there reading about I need to mail two coupons to get that price. Also it has chased me to the internet to make my purchases. It’s a good thing to see a major store taking a old school approach. Price it and sell it!

Too bad every OfficeMax within a 200 mile radius of me has closed. :)
