They always want more

I was asked to convert an Microsoft Access database to an MS SQL database. It only took a couple of hours to convert the tables, views and functions over. Once that was done, I sent the SQL file to the developer so that he could use it to load it onto his SQL Server Express test system. The Access frontend was upsized using the Access Upsizing Wizard so that it would work with the new SQL DB backend.

One of the things that was requested was the implementation of a login system. The program is going to be used by about 50 people and they aren’t supposed to see information from other offices. The developer was asked to come up with that in the Access frontend.

The developer came to my office a couple of days ago to show me some changes he had made to the frontend as well as a couple of tables/functions he had added. The database changes weren’t difficult to include but, after showing me the changes, he looked at me and said, “Have you come up with the login system yet?” Uh, no. I hadn’t even looked into that because I did my part (converting to a SQL backend).

I’m working on it now but it is no way a priority. Christmas break is coming up and I’ll get a week off of work then. Maybe I’ll have something after the New Year.
