I bought gas where?
The fuel gauge was about to bottom out so I pulled into the closest Exxon gas station. I used the ol’ debit card at the pump since I didn’t need anything else from the store. Once the tank was full, I retrieved the receipt from the pump. That’s where it gets weird.
At the top of the receipt, instead of the name of the gas station (Exxon), it showed “Thanks for choosing Shell V-Power!”. I didn’t notice it until I got home and went to write the amount down. I know I went to the Exxon because it’s the only gas station in that area. The Shell station is a few miles down the road.
I know Shell and ExxonMobile have had some joint oil ventures in the past but did they join up on the gas pumps? Or is this just some weird gas pump printer mixup?

Create your own wall poster
If you’ve ever wanted to turn that sweet pic on your PC into a huge wall poster, I have found the site for you. Check out Block Posters. This free service takes any image, up to 1 MB, and spits out a PDF with the individual pages for you to print out.
The process couldn’t be easier.
- Upload your image.
- Choose how many pages wide you want your poster to be.
- You also choose orientation and paper size.
- Number of pages in height are automatically calculated.
- Download a PDF file containing the pages.
- Hang the pages to form the poster.
Another cool feature to step 2 is the fact that it shows you how many feet wide and tall your poster will be. Keep in mind that the lower the picture quality, the more pixelated the final printout will be.
Check out the gallery for other user posters. I like how some of them cut the white border off so that the poster was more uniform. Info on sending a pic of your final poster can be found on the gallery page.

No rest for the weary
Day 4: I saw a pink elephant. He was rather snotty, didn’t return my “Hello.”
I don’t know what’s going on but I do know one thing. Insomnia sucks. I start to doze off and then snap back fully awake. The worst part is that it makes the work day drag by.
Back to technology. So far, Ubuntu 7.04 hasn’t made any impressions on me that I didn’t already have from 6.10. The latest version actually has a problem on my laptop in that the processor doesn’t throttle properly. Because of this problem, the lower left side of my laptop gets really warm. I’m going to go back to 6.10 for now.
The server version of Ubuntu 7.04 runs a little better on my desktop server compared to 6.10. Queries against MySQL and pulling pages from Apache are slightly faster. Unfortunately, I blew away my Jinzora install and have to get it set back up. That’s good, in a way, because I can double check my write-up and be sure it’s correct before I post it.

Earth Day & Home Depot
Home Depot is giving away free CFL bulbs (one per customer) today. The giveaway is in honor of Earth Day. Their goal is to give away 1 million bulbs to help reduce energy consumption. Reducing energy consumption will also help reduce pollution from power factories.
I’m all for improving the environment but not by using the fear tactics that Global Warming alarmist are fans of using. To see a really good dissenting view of Global Warming scare “facts”, check out The Great Global Warming Swindle:
The video is an hour and thirteen minutes long. In case Google pulls the video, you can find it on YouTube here (nine parts).
